The ocean voyaging canoe Hokule’a docked Sunday in New York City. Among the thousands greeting the arrival of the double-hulled canoe was Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi, government officials, and Native American tribes, who performed traditional greeting ceremonies. On Wednesday, Nainoa Thompson, the president of the Polynesian Voyaging Society and the chief navigator on board the Hokule’a, will address the United Nations on World Oceans Day.
