UH-Manoa president David Lassner is having unique vacation this year, as he serves as a temporary crew member on the ocean voyaging canoe Hokule’a as it sails from Washington, D.C. to New York City.  Lassner’s video report to KHON 2 News is interesting and upbeat as the Hokule’a prepares to make port on Tuesday.  As in other port visits, the Hokule’a crew will offer educational tours to the public and meet local dignitaries, community leaders, and members of Hawaii’s extended families during the brief stay in the “Big Apple.”  The visit to New York City is part of Hokule’a’s “Malama Honua” worldwide voyage.
